Make Good Stuff
Watch our guide to the awesome world of SEO – simply put we say “Make Good Stuff!"
Search Engine Optimization. Even the name makes it sound like something only an expert or a shaman could understand. That’s why they call themselves SEO gurus, in case we realize just how simple it really is.
The main rule, the only rule in many ways, is simply to have brilliant content on your website. That’s it! Whether you’re a newspaper, a shop, or a blog dedicated to a particularly strange stray cat, there’s no point tricking good traffic to a bad site. Because chances are, you’ll only get away with that once. But let’s say you have a brilliant website already, one solving the crucial requirement for umbrellas during the British summer. Obviously, you want lots of people to visit your site, but you only want visitors who are actually pleased to be there, who’ll recommend you to their friends and come back for another umbrella when the inevitable happens.
That’s where a few simple rules come in. Make sure the page titles and descriptions of your webpages describe exactly what each page is about, simply and accurately. Use words which the right people will search for. “Umbrella shop" is better than “amazing umbrella shop," because who searches for amazing anything?
Now, any site can have a good title and description, but when it comes to being number one in Google search results, there can be only one victor. The more links to your site from big, well-established websites, the higher it will appear in Google. So that when someone searches for umbrellas, there you are, right on top.
The only way to get these links, yes, I’m repeating myself, is to have brilliant content. The sort of content big sites will link to, blogs and newspapers will talk about, and people will share on Twitter and Facebook. So the real key to SEO is make good stuff, and the rest will follow.
