Climbing Trees is officially a B-Corp

Published on June 21, 2022 by Climbing Trees

After a two-year process, the day has finally come – Climbing Trees is officially B-Corp certified!

Becoming a B-Corp is about creating a more sustainable economy, which shifts away from profit being the only driver of a business and instead helps businesses find purpose.

Gaining this certification not only showed us a path to doing business in a more socially and environmentally conscious way, but it allowed us to demonstrate our values are not just something we write on our website. The certification has also increased a sense of pride among the Climbing Trees team to be able to work for a business that genuinely tries to make a difference.

Working for a B-Corp means that I don’t have to make compromises when it comes to my personal values. It gives me confidence that Climbing Trees prioritise people and planet, and will continue to do so going forward.

Will Bravin, Account Manager – Climbing Trees

At Climbing Trees, we have a deep passion for the environment and over the years we’ve worked on various areas of our agency to mitigate our impact on the planet. Going through the B-Corp certification process was a natural evolution for us and helped us create an even more sustainable and ethical agency.

“The business which exited the process is definitely different from the one that entered it. Regardless of the certification, we significantly improved our social and environmental performance and finally feel fit for purpose”

Alex Holliman, Founder & Managing Director – Climbing Trees

Our passion for a greener future

When it comes to the environment, we are continuously setting new targets to further mitigate our impact. Although this is something we care about deeply and have built our brand around, we’ve managed to make some major mistakes along the way. Participating in initiatives such as the One Million Tree pledge has been important to us as it feels like a gesture to rectify the harm done in the past.

Creating a diverse team

Aside from our passion for the environment the B-Corp certification process also helped us improve our staff satisfaction. We’ve doubled down with a laser focus on how we treat our team, leading to exponential growth in staff satisfaction levels and staff feeling more trusted, empowered, and proud to work for Climbing Trees.

One of the changes that helped us to improve this was offering our staff more job flexibility as we wanted them to feel in control of their lives. We have also worked hard to become a more diverse workplace in terms of gender, ethnicity, sexuality, age, and neurodiversity, though there is still work to be done in this area.

Giving back to our community

One of our latest’s focuses has been community work. We are starting to get more involved in working with charities, volunteering, and finding new ways to give back to our community. We still have a long way to go but this has become a major target as we grow this year.

We are a work in progress

Along with giving back to the community, other areas which still require work are building up our diversity as we grow and mitigating our environmental impact further. Although getting the B-Corp stamp of approval is a fantastic feeling, we realise there is still much work to be done.

One of the things I’ve learnt is that it doesn’t stop at being able to stamp a B-Corp logo on our website. We’re more focused than ever before and clear on areas we need to improve in”

Alex Holliman, Founder & Managing Director – Climbing Trees

We are so pleased with all of our achievements so far in improving our social and environmental impact and happy to be able to officially announce we are a B-Corp! But most importantly, we are looking forward to seeing how we continue to grow and the positive impact we continue to bring to the lives of our people, clients, industry, community and planet.  You can read more about our journey to becoming a B-Corp and the impact we’ve had so far by going to our Becoming a B-Corp page.
